September 23-25, 2011, at the Bethany Beach Conference Center of the Capital Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was an amazing time of fellowship, fun, and spiritual renewal. (We've also heard some people talk about shopping!) Retreaters included Charles and Valerie Summers, Helen McConnell, Larry Fisher, Janet and Mike Coughlin, Kevin Skyat, Carol and Russell Cook. Thanks to Valerie Summers for organizing the event and to Conference Center director Dana, student interns Bara-Kamil-Tomas, and to Rev. Carol for preparing our retreat program. We shared meals with the United Christian Parish of Reston, Virginia, and worshipped with the Bethany Beach Christian Church. Great memories include dinner out Friday night, sharing personal stories, discussing how First Christian can be more welcoming, walking on the beach, hearing a new hymn composed and performed by Kevin, and Fisher's Carmel Popcorn (no relation to Larry). In place of our regular service, worshippers were directed to worship with First Christian's Faith Partners. |
