Easter 2011 background
On September 11th, 2011, the five Faith Partner congregations of First Christian Church shared a solemn and moving worship service to memorialize the 911 victims and to pray for peace. Click on tabs for photos, audio, worship bulletin, and litany.
Procession: The St. Andrews Christian Community provided a bagpiper in traditional Scottish garb, who played the worship prelude and led the opening procession of clergy and worship leaders into the sanctuary.

Litany: Lay leaders of the five congregations led worshippers in a responsive reading of the Litany of Remembrance, Penitence and Hope. Five candles were lit on the alter in remembrance of the 9/11 fallen.

Worship: Clergy and lay leaders of all five First Christian Church Faith Partners led worshippers in a time of scripture reading, remembrance and reflection on God's way to peace and reconciliation, while special music created a space for spiritual contemplation.

Bell
Silence: At specific intervals throughout the 9/11 memorial service, a minute of silence marked by the toll of a bell was observed for victims of each of the four planes sacrificed in the attacks. The bellringer was Lyndsey Hamilton of Mt. Olivet Christian Church.
Communion: Rev. Ernest Smart of St. Andrews Christian Community gave a Communion Meditation and invited Christian congregants to come forward to receive communion. Rabbi Liz Bolton of Beit Tikvah received Jewish congregants for Personal Blessings.

Luncheon: Following the 9/11 memorial service, the five congregations shared fellowship and personal reflections on 9/11 during a potluck luncheon in the First Christian Fellowship Hall. First Christian Church's Rev. Carol Cook was recognized for her coordination of the event.
